Workshops

In addition to my work as a FSS Faculty Member instructing FSS workshops, I also develop and teach my own original, theme-based workshops under the title of "Our Personal Medicine." They are both core shamanic & eclectic in style and methodology, and range from half day to weekend gatherings. I draw upon various spiritually based healing and divinatory methods as well as the inspiration of poetry, scholarly and scientific research, myth and cultural lore.

The aim of all these programs, whether my own or FSS based, is to work towards a healthy expression of the soul, benefitting those around us, our communities, and our planet. Listed below are all workshops I am involved with. FSS Weekend Workshops and FSS Advanced Five Day and Longer Programs are FSS based courses, while Our Personal Medicine Workshops are personally developed and taught by myself.

 

FSS WEEKEND WORKSHOPS:

FSS - Basic Workshop: The Way of the Shaman®
An experiential introduction to core shamanism including basic methods to enter non-ordinary reality for problem-solving, well-being and healing for oneself and others. This is the prerequisite workshop for all other FSS workshops and training.

FSS - Spirits of Nature
Shamans have worked with the spirits of nature for healing, survival and knowledge from ancient times. We will learn how to access our connections with nature in both non-ordinary and ordinary reality to restore and maintain a living Planet.

FSS - Extraction Healing Training
Participants will be initiated into the extraction method of healing, including how to see, sense, and remove localized illness and pain connected to spiritual factors.

FSS - Shamanic Divination Training
Participants in this workshop have the opportunity to engage in divination journeys to obtain answers to questions, both at the request of others and for oneself as well as using various time-tested shamanic divination techniques.

FSS - Shamanism, Dying and Beyond
Participants learn how to deal with the issue of dying and the destiny of souls from a shamanic perspective, both for personal learning, and for those who wish to help others in terminal situations or who have already passed on.

FSS - Shamanic Dreamwork™
An experiential workshop to explore the nature, meaning, and use of dreams among shamanic peoples, with dreamwork practices from a range of cultures. It provides the opportunity to apply this knowledge to contemporary life, including the use of dreams in divination, health, and healing.

FSS - Shamanism and Creativity™
Participants will have the opportunity to enhance their creativity through the practice of shamanic methods. Selected examples illustrate connections between shamanism and creative ability, and specific exercises are taught that participants can apply to their personal lives.

FSS - Michael Harner’s Power Soul Retrieval Training™
From the shamanic point of view, people who are not spiritually "power-filled" are prone to illness, accidents, and misfortune. Anyone who has had a traumatic experience may lose a portion of their soul or spiritual essence. There are also other reasons this may occur. Participants will learn about soul loss and soul retrieval from a shamanistic perspective. Soul retrieval training is based on worldwide core principles and methods.

FSS - Shamanism Practicum - Guides for a Healthy Shamanic Practice™
This two-day workshop developed by Susan Mokelke provides a broad spectrum of useful and practical knowledge for the develpment of a healthy, organized and effective shamanic practice. Topics include the ethical practice of shamanic healing and divination, legal considerations, what to say to potential clients, the screening process, payment issues, useful paperwork and forms to provide, and effectively organizing your practice. Participants will develop the tools they need in order to create and sustain an ethical, professional and effective shamanic practice.




FSS ADVANCED FIVE -DAY AND LONGER TRAINING PROGRAMS:

FSS - Two Week Shamanic Healing Intensive™
Originated and directed by Michael Harner and based upon decades of research and experimentation, this residential program in advanced core shamanism is described by participants as "transformative," "life changing," and the most spiritual experience of my life."
The Two Week Intensive includes training with a variety of advanced methods including extraction healing, power soul retrieval training, psychopomp work relating to the spirits of the deceased, divination, and practices with the spirits of Nature. The Intensive also includes advanced healing methods not included in FSS weekend workshops, opportunities for participants to offer and receive shamanic healing and to practice the methods in an integrated way, as well as dream dance and initiatory experiences.

FSS - Three Year Program of Advanced Initiations in Shamanism and Shamanic Healing™
Originated by Michael Harner and based upon his decades of research and experimentation, this program is the most advanced training in shamanism and shamanic healing offered by the FSS. Involving intensive and comprehensive training in progressively higher levels of advanced shamanism, including initiations into rare and little-known practices and principles, it is widely considered to be unparalleled as a course of study anywhere in the world.

In this ongoing residential program, the same group of participants meet for a week twice a year for three years, with practical assignments between meetings. The program is devoted to advancing the participants’ knowledge and practice as far as possible. Sessions are held at a retreat center; on-site lodging and meals will be arranged during registration. Enrollment is limited.

Prerequisites: The FSS Basic Workshop, The Way of the Shaman®, and either 1: The FSS Two Week Shamanic Healing Intensive; or 2: At least six days of advanced FSS workshops, including Shamanic Extraction Healing Training and two other advanced FSS two-day workshops of your choice.

OUR PERSONAL MEDICINE WORKSHOPS

Shaman’s Heart
The heart is central to the shamanic path and all shamanic work. We will use core shamanic methods, scientific and medical information, and the inspiration of poetry, myth and the spiritual wisdom to explore both physical and energetic aspects of the heart and put this to practical use.

Transformation
This workshop will address ways of meeting the personal and collective changes of our time. We’ll draw upon shamanic practices, poetry, contemporary scientific research and helpful heart-centered practices to inform and assist our transformational work together.

Gifts and Blessings
Shamanic methods, poetry, various teachings and spiritual traditions will help us to actively explore our personal gifts and blessings, both the giving and receiving, as well as their origin and impact on our lives and work.

Making Peace
We’ll focus on learning about peace, both personal and collective, and discover shamanic ways of peace-making. Material from different cultures as well as historical figures will help us learn how to live in peace.
